Getting out of LA, you learn that what is funny in LA can put people way out of their comfort zone in the Mid-West. It's so easy to offend, and not even know why, or what you said put an audience off. Corporate America seems to have lost their sense of humor. Jokes have to go through layers of judgement - "Was that joke racist, sexist, ageist, -- let's break into groups and come to a consesus, or hire consultant to figure out if we should laugh." People will look around to see if their boss is laughing first before laughing. But I've come to realize that pushing others out of their comfort zone is not necessarily a bad thing. What is hack comedy in NY or LA iscomedy gold to the territory in between.
